MINUTES – BOARD OF DIRECTORS – DISTRICT 9

ADVISORS PRESENT WERE:
Shirley Seals, District 9 Director, Ellie Hanlon, Disciplinary Chair, Steve Warner, Recorder, and Patty Johnson, Director-in-Charge.
INVITED GUESTS WERE:
Marlene Passell, NABC 2004 Entertainment Co-Chair, and Barbara Nudelman.
The meeting of the Board of Directors of District 9 was called to order by President Jeff Overby.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM
Minutes were approved as presented.
Motion made to accept Treasurer’s Report. Approved.
(Copies of financial statements are attached to this report.)
The tournament is down approximately 14%. Recent hurricanes have contributed to the downtrend in attendance. Total table count is projected to be 1600 tables.
Motion made to allow
The Bridge Club of SW Florida and the Naples Bridge Club have agreed to swap Sectional tournament dates in May of 2005. The following dates are correct
Motion made to give Patty Johnson the
authority to move the Daytona Sectional scheduled for October 20 – 23, 2005 to
a date that does not conflict with Biker Week,
provided the new date does not conflict with other tournaments in the
area. Motion
carried.
NABC 2004
The room block has been increased two times. The budget is being based on 13,000 tables but the attendance is projected to reach 15,000 tables. The District receives $8 per table which could mean an additional $16,000 from ACBL.
Free coffee and orange will be provided daily.
Registration gifts are small leather wallets.
Section top prizes are 12-pack cooler bags.
Muriel Altus is in charge of Spouse entertainment.
Ellie Hanlon is in charge of Off-Site entertainment.
Bette Cohn and Marlene Passell are in charge of daily entertainment which was outlined to the board.
Martha Easter has raised over $7000 in donations to name games at the NABC.
Motion made to approve the expense for a Suite for the District 9 President during the NABC. Motion carried.
Board members were reminded to send the list of Volunteers required daily at the tournament to Patty Johnson. Each Unit has a certain day assigned to furnish volunteers.
RECORDER REPORT: Steve Warner
No major problems. Many zero tolerance penalties have been given for cell phones ringing in the playing area and partner abuse.
SUNSHINE BRIDGE NEWS:
Bette Cohn reported that the majority of the people in Unit 102 were very pleased with the new publication. Thanks were given to Unit 128 for financing the first two issues. This policy will be continued until such time as the publication has sufficient funds to be self-sufficient.

committee meeting was held at the
NEW BUSINESS:
The
issue of advertising District 7 tournaments on a reciprocal basis was discussed. A
motion was made to deny advertising to other Districts beginning with the
January/February 2005 issue of the
Shirley Seals, Secretary/Treasurer, District 9 has requested a salary increase.
Her present salary is $200/month and she is now requesting $500/month.
Motion made to approve the request for a salary increase. Motion carried.
Motion made to begin the salary increase on October 1, 2004.
Motion carried.
