DIRECTORS ABSENT WERE:

ADVISORS PRESENT WERE:
Patty Johnson, Director in Charge, Shirley Seals, District 9 Director and Steve Warner, Recorder.
GUESTS PRESENT WERE:
Jane Ann Mabry and Betty Sandifer.
The meeting of the Board of Directors of District 9 was called to order by President, Bette Cohn, at 9:30 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM SARASOTA/MANATEE REGIONAL BOARD MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 25, 2006. Minutes were approved as presented.
An updated Schedule of District 9 Tournaments for the Years 2006 and 2007 were distributed.
The total number of ACBL members in District 9, as of June 1, 2006, is
15,612. Members per unit are as follows:
Unit 102 919
Unit 128 10,974
Unit 219 637
Unit 240 1,831
Unit 243 1,251
TREASURER’S REPORT: Shirley Seals
A copy of the Balance Sheet dated May 31, 2006, and a Profit and Loss Statement showing Year to Date as of May 31, 2006 were distributed to the Board Members.
The board approved the Treasurer’s Report with the following amendments:
(1) Only Expenses pertaining to gifts/entertainment, specifically for
Rookies of the Year from each Unit, will be charged to the
Memorial Trophy Fund shown on the Balance Sheet.
(2) The Secretary/Treasurer’s Salary will be expensed totally to
District 9. Salary expenses charged to the Sunshine Bridge
News account will be returned to the Sunshine Bridge News
Operating Account.
Motion made by Muriel Altus to order (5) engraved crystal paperweights for the Rookie of the Year from each Unit. Seconded by Nancy Hagerty.
Motion carried.
The paperweights will be presented to the Rookies of the Year at the
4th of July Regional held in Deerfield Beach. (Jayne Thomas and Muriel
will select and order the paperweights/gifts each year.)
The tournament is down 12% at the time of this meeting. Table count is anticipated to be in the 1100 table range. (Actual Table Count was 1161.5.)
Goodwill Chair, Carol Hamilton, was absent due to an illness in her family.
Bette Cohn and Gen Geiger hosted a beautiful party on Friday between sessions to honor the 2005 District 9 Goodwill appointees. Previous recipients of District and National Goodwill pins were invited and also recognized for their volunteer work on behalf of bridge and the District.
A Media Information Sheet outlining a plan to sell advertisements in the Sunshine Bridge News was distributed to the board.
Bette Cohn urged members to sell advertisements with the intent of making the
SBN a breakeven proposition.
No activity/complaints thus far.

OLD BUSINESS:
Doug Drew, Past President of ACBL, and Jeff Overby have been appointed to work on District 9 By-law revisions. Bette has asked that a committee report be ready for presentation to the board at our Naples Regional Board Meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Motion made that entry fees for District 9 Regional Tournaments will remain at $12 per person, per session, which includes $1 for the Sunshine Bridge News assessment. Motion carried unanimously.
Patty Johnson asked the board to consider building 26 stantions to be used at
the 2007 Regional Tournament to be held at the Manatee Convention Center.
The cost of rental and transportation from ACBL in Memphis is prohibitive.
Storage space is a problem.
Charlie Gill, Candace Griffey and Charlene Predmest have been elected to serve on the National Board of Governors representing District 9.
Motion made to give the winner of the District 9 Logo Contest $150 worth of ACBL script. Motion carried.
The Marco Regional Tournament scheduled to be held October 9 – 16, 2006 was cancelled due to the Marco Radisson Hotel being converted to Condominiums. The tournament has been moved to:

New Date: OCTOBER 2 – 8, 2006
The next District 9 board meeting will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2006
at the Naples Grande Resort and Spa, Naples, Florida.
