District 9 Board of Directors Meetings at Orlando
January 4, 2002

Directors present were Muriel Altus, Bette Cohn, Carol Clifford (Proxy for Craig Hemphill), Bud Dean, Betty Grandoff, Marshall Hall, Ellie Hanlon, Janet Laudenslager, Spike Lay, Arnold Malasky, Charles Miner, Bob Newton, Sterling Odom, Jennifer Rogers, Shirley Seals, Jayne Thomas and Caroline Warner; absent were Marilyn Brady, Craig Hemphill, Phyllis Kaplan, George Scarff and Tom Marr.

Advisors present were David Rogers, Stephen Warner, Phil Altus, Bill Passell, Marlene Passell and Patty Johnson; Lois Redlick was absent.

A disciplinary appeal from action taken by Unit 102 was heard at the Daytona Regional; the sentences imposed were reduced on both players and ACBL has been notified of this decision

A motion was made that in addition to the five sectionals already sanctioned for Unit 102 two STaCs be approved for 2002. The motion carried. A committee will be appointed to determine a fair allocation of the number of tournaments per unit and this will be discussed at a future meeting.

The motion made by Arnie Malasky that Unit 102 be given a sanction for three STaCs in the year 2002 as well as a motion requesting Unit 102 be sanctioned a Regional tournament in 2004 both failed.

Jayne Thomas, tournament chairperson for the Nationals to be held in Orlando in 2004 announced that Carolyn Walsh would be her co-chair and Shirley Seals Treasurer/Finance person. Volunteers were asked to contact Jayne if they would be interested in heading up a committee. Betty Cohn and Marlene Passell volunteered to chair the Entertainment Committee. These appointments were approved by the Board

A motion was made by Marshall Hall that Palm Beach be sanctioned a Regional tournament during August 2004. Motion carried.

Officers were elected as follows:

Jeff Overby, President

Sterling Odom, Vice President

Shirley Seals, Secretary/Treasurer

Carol Clifford was appointed to address the issue of rewriting the District 9 bylaws. Carol requested all Board members to send her any information they had.

Jeff Overby will head the Regional and Sectional allocation committee and asked the board members to volunteer to serve.

The next board meeting is scheduled for April 2002 at the Southeastern Regional in Ft. Lauderdale.
