ACBL Board of Directors' Meetings at Houston NABC
April 1, 2001

Addendum to National Board Meeting - Houston - Spring 2002

1. A proposal to underwrite the cost of ACBL tournament directors for the WBF World Championships in Montreal was defeated; it would have cost $7,000 - $10,000. A proposal to let the WBF (sponsors) of the regional tournament running concurrently with the World Championships use lower-cost foreign Tournament Directors was defeated.

2. ACBL Management asked to be allowed to develop and fund an extensive  training and retraining program for Tournament Directors --program to be implemented the beginning of 2003. The Board approved.

3. There was a follow-up for the Board and the Educational Foundation on the progress of Bridge At Schools. This program could be very good for the future of bridge.  The group has applied to the IRS for status that will allow tax-deductible contributions. If you would like to donate to this  cause, contact Barbara Heller (hellerb@mindspirng.com). The money is needed.

4. On the ACBL web site ( http://www.ACBL.org ) there is a survey about the ACBL Bulletin that I would urge everyone to complete. One of the projects in the works is to find ways to make our Bulletin better serve the membership and to attract advertisers. If you feel that we should retain the status quo, say so; but do that with the knowledge that advertisers will not be easy to find with out current publication. Why would we want more advertising?  One reason is to reduce the cost of the magazine to our membership and to down the cost of membership. Another, is to attract new members to ACBL with a publication they enjoy reading.

Let me hear from you with ways to attract new members to ACBL--- I need your ideas and comments.
