Highlights from Meeting at Washington NABC
July 2002

The National Board meeting has just concluded in Washington, D. C. and the following are some highlights from this meeting.  A more detailed report will follow later.

I presented a motion to the board requesting an additional Regional tournament in District 9. This tournament would be rotated between Destin/Ft. Walton, Orlando, Sarasota, and Palm Beach county. My arguments  were that we need an additional tournament or two because of our large number of ACBL members, that Districts that have fewer members have proportionately more tournaments, and District 9 has demonstrated its success in hosting a tournament. This was defeated by the board. A Tournament Allocation Committee will be formed some time in the future to address the issue of the equitable allocation of tournaments to Districts.

I also co-sponsored a motion to rescind the required One No Trump announcement. The majority of the board felt that this requirement had been in place too short a time to determine its effectiveness and this was also defeated.

A two year training program has been put into motion to update Tournament Director training.

A motion was made to allow Clubs the option of allowing their members to refer to their convention card during the bidding process. This was deferred to a later meeting. A committee will be formed to address more relaxed rules
at Club games.

Now is the time to make your Reservations for the next NABC in Phoenix from November 28 thru December 8.
