D9 Gets

The National Board awarded District 9 an additional Regional Tournament for the years of 2004 and 2005. This was
done in order to give the District Coordinator time to locate hotels and sign contracts. A Regional Allocation
Committee will be appointed to review the entire Regional Allocation Regulations and report with change, if any, at the
Summer 2003 Board of Directors Meeting.
With this approval, the Board recognized the need of an additional tournament to a District with 17,000 ACBL members.
We are by far the largest District in all of ACBL.
The District 9 Tournament Committee agreed that in the event we received an additional tournament, Orlando would
receive three (3) more January tournaments and Sarasota would receive a tournament every other year on even
numbered years.
This is such GOOD NEWS. It allows the District to address the needs of our growing number of members and a
tournament to be scheduled in the new Unit 102 area as well as Orlando in January every year, except the year following
the Nationals held there in November.
Florida was prominent in the news at the National Board Meeting. The Board approved ORLANDO as the site of the
2010 NATIONALS. Keep in mind that ORLANDO is also the site of the 2004 NATIONALS being held at the World
Marriott Center. This is a tremendous hotel--all playing area under one roof--plenty of parking---and very
HANDICAP FRIENDLY.
