The Summer NorthAmerican Bridge Championship in Atlanta, Georgia will be held July 21 – 31 at the Hyatt Regency AtlantaFor the first time, games will start on a 10 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. schedule, which means there will be a number of changes in our education programsPlease visit the Atlanta NABC pages on the ACBL web site for details.

 

For Example, the Club Director Update Course will be on one day only……

DISTRICT CHARITY GRANTS BEGIN IN 2005

 

In an effort to respond to the needs of charity in local areas, the ACBL Charity Foundation in 2005 began issuing grants to districts rather than granting one $100,000 contribution to a national Charity of the Year.

 

The districts will be in a four-year cycle with the exceptions of Districts 1 and 2, where charity funds are collected by the CanadianBridge FederationDistricts 18 and 19 will share one grantDistrict 19 will receive 60%, District 18 40% for the first four year cycle.

 

These districts will be awarded grants in the following years:

Year       Districts

2005       4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 17

2006       3, 13, 16, 20, 24

2007       8, 9, 10, 14, 21, 23

2008      12, 15, 18, 19, 22, 25

 

Each district will be allowed to allocated $20,000This sum can be divided into no more than five separate grants, each of which must be made to a qualified 501 ©4 organizationThe relevant district boards or their designee shall allocate the district grants.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

 

NAP  2005 – 2006 North American Pairs

 

Thanks to you, the 2004-2005 NAP season was a roaring success.

 

By now, all club managers should have their 2005-06 NAP packetsThe packet includes the Conditions of ContestPlease read the NAP Conditions of Contest carefullyClub-level games may be hosted during June, July, and AugustUnit level events begin September 1, but must be held prior to the District finalThe NAP finals will be held in Dallas, Texas.

First and second place finishers receive subsidies.

 

Club Membership Game


Say “Thank you” to your members and recruit new players!

Feature a Membership Game and earn 100% sectional rated black pointsThis is also a great opportunity to recruit new members because only Life Masters and paid ACBL members are eligible to win masterpoints in these games.

 

A club may hold one Membership Game per year for each regularly sanctioned session. 

 

ACBL-wide International Fund Game #3

 

Help support North Americans in international bridge competitionOn Friday evening, July 22, bridge clubs across ACBL will host the last of three ACBL-wide events designed to raise funds to defray expenses of North American teams and pairs entered in the international competition for World Bridge Federation titlesIf interested, contact specialevents@acbl.org.

 

NOTE:  September is International Fund monthAny regularly scheduled sanctioned session during September can be an International Fund game.  The cost is an extra $1.00 per person and players can win sectional-rated black points. 

 

ACBL-wide Instant Matchpoint Game

The ACBL-wide Instant Matchpoint Game will be held on Wednesday evening, September 14This event features a gold point for section-top winners and a booklet with complete analyses of the deals by national champion Richard PavlicekThis contest is played by all ACBL sanctioned bridge clubs at the same timeDistrict winners and the top pair will be listed in the Bridge Bulletin. 

 

ACBL-wide 49ers Pairs

We love our newcomersThe ACBL-wide 49wers Pairs club games may be played the entire month of September—with recognition in the Bridge Bulletin magazine for pairs with the highest percentages in each districtThese games award sectional-rated black points for players with fewer than 50 masterpointsClubs may run as many games as they wishThere are no additional fees and no registration required.

 

Jane Johnson Club Appreciation

 

We love our clubs, especially during OCTOBERAll sanctioned clubs may hold a Club Appreciation Pair Game and a Club Appreciation Swiss Teams during the month of October per-sanctioned sessionMasterpoints awarded:  100% sectional-rated black for the Club Appreciation Pair Game.   For team events, the club awards 5% gold masterpoints to a maximum of 0.25 per playerThe remaining masterpoints are sectional-rated black.

 

CENTURY CLUB

 

A Century Club has been established for our members who reach 100 years of agePlease let us know of any ACBL members playing at your club who would LIKE to be honored on their 100th birthdays, and we will send them a Century Club certificatePlease submit the player’s name, player number and birth date to Patsy Edwards at patsy.Edwards@acbl.org.
