CEO Report to ACBL Board of Directors
January 29, 2003

Bridge Bulletin: The majority of the comments regarding the new format of The Bridge Bulletin were favorable. The few who disapproved conceded that the appearance was good, but they did not like the size. Marketing Report: Those Units who participated in the Cooperative Marketing Program in 2002 will receive their reimbursements in April 2003. Unit will continue to be asked for a Unit Electronic Contact for timely and efficient communication. If the electronic contact changs, please notify ACBL at unit_reports@acbl.org . Finally, we promised to update you on our plans for membership recruitment and renewal incentives to the units. ACBL is please to announce the growth incentive rewards program for all units with membership increases in 2003 as follows: Units now will receive financial incentives for membership growth in this simple manner: * Units with membership growoth of from .01 to 1 percent at the close of 2003 will receive a growth incentive reward of $0.50 per member. For example, if your unit grows by .32 percent to 500 members during 2003, the unit will receive $250. * Units with growth from 1.01 to 5 percent will receive $0.75 per member. * Units with growth of more than 5 percent will receive $1.00 per member. * $5,000 will be the maximum growth incentive payment to any unit. * Growth incentive rewards for the year 2003 will be distributed to units in April 2004. * Units must maintain a Unit Electronic Contact to be eligible for growth incentive rewards. We know that you already are working hard to retain your members and can think of many innovative ways to grow. For example, you may wish to host a Unit Growth Program, where one of our league representatives conducts a seminar for unit boards, teachers, club managers and volunteers to encourage team building and provid information on ACBL services. The cost to the unit is only what you wish to pay for the refreshments or other perks for attendance. If interested, contact Education Department Director Julie Greenberg at 901-332-5586, Ext. 262 or e-mail her at julie.greenberg@acbl.org . Submitted by Linda Granell Director of Marketing, ACBL Ext. 334 linda.granell@acbl.org Tournament Feedback: In an effort to increase tournament feedback from sponsors, each tournament chair is being contacted the Monday morning following his/her tournament. A short note and a link to the online tournament evaluation form as well as CTD phone extension and e-mail address is included. We'll measure the January-February response rates and compare to prior periods. 2002 Table Count: Tournament table counts for 2002 were up across all Regional, Sectional and STaC categories; NABCs were down. Membership Statistics: For the period ending December 31, 2002, dues/paying membership declined 1.6% (2,472 members to 149,398 from 151,870 at December 31, 2001). ACBL Laws Commission: The complete draft of the minutes of this meeting held in Phoenix are available at www.acbl.org under Governance or directly at Http://www.acbl.org/details.asp?id3D1832&PID3D10200. Resolution 023-145 Convention Card Laws is being reviewed by this committee. Handbook for Club Directors: We are in the final stages of preparing a handbook to replace the old "study packet" for the Club Director Test. The handbook is being designed to help new prospects prepare for the club director course and exam and to use as they start running games at the local leve. We expect the "Handbook for Club Directors" to be ready by the end of the month. Jay Baum
