Miner dominates the Miami Open Final, Wins $4,000; Junior John Hurd wins $2,000; Michael Seamon is Third.

April 25, Hilton Miami Airport--– Charles Miner, Orlando, FL, a ACBL District 9 Board Member, dominated the $12,000 Miami Open final with a huge 67% game. Playing in his first Bridge Prize Money Tour, Inc. event, Miner won $4,000 for his first place finish with 112.7 matchpoint total.

A full board back, John Hurd, Charleston, SC with a great game led three Juniors-- Joe Grue, Bronx, NY; Mark Abraham, Belmont, AUS; and Michael Wilkinson, Denistone, AUS, to the best showing by Juniors in any BPT event. Hurd’s 63% game and 105.5 matchpoints garnered him second place and $2,000. Grue collected $850 for a 13^th place finish in the final ($100) combined with a first place finish in the Qualifying Overalls ($500) and a first place finish in the 1^st Qualifying Session ($250). Abraham placed 12^th ($100), while Wilkinson finished in 17^th place ($100).

Michael Seamon, Miami Beach, FL, wished the Miami Open was a four session event. Arriving late because of a failed wakeup call, he joined the 1^st qualifying session in the third round replacing a fill-in. Seamon had a 49% game that first session. In the 2^nd qualifying session he was up to a 54%. Because the field was smaller then 80 players the finals was played in the third session that Seamon placed 3^rd in for $1,000 with a 61% game.

Frances Egger, Venice, FL, was 4 matchpoints behind Seamon with a 58% game, good enough for 4^th place and $500 in prize money. Ellasue Chait, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Steven Pawliger, Hollywood, FL, each won $150 in prize money for finishing 5^th and 6^th respectively.

Chris Compton, Dallas, TX, playing in his second BPT event, noted, "I love the individual format, especially with its ‘no questions, no alerts, no announcements’ standards. Compton finished 15^th in the final for $100.

The Miami Open is the third event of the $120,000 BPT 2003 Tour, which offers a $20,000 Bonus Pool paid to the top 32 prize money tour winners in these 10 events. The Tour continues next month in Cleveland, OH at the Independence Regional May 22-25. A month later the third annual $12,000 Las Vegas Open takes place in Nevada June 25-28.
