UPDATE
FROM THE DISTRICT DIRECTOR
DISTRICT 9 WEB SITE: www.District9acbl.org
I have just returned from the National board meeting in New York. You may be an Emerald Life Master and did not know it. A new category was added between Diamond Life Master and Grand Life Master. This new category will require 7500 masterpoints.
The following items of interest occurred at our meetings:
* Chuck Wilkinson from Jackson, Mississippi (District 10) was elected as ACBL President for 2005. We look forward to welcoming him to Florida in the coming year.
* The President’s Volunteer of the Year award was created and a medal will be designed to commemorate these Awards. The President will select one or two members who have exhibited the long effort and giving that makes the ACBL volunteers the best in the world.
* VERY GOOD NEWS FOR JUNIORS I am pleased to report that at all NABCs, the entry fee for all players who have not yet reached their 16th birthday shall be $1 per session, except NABC surcharged events.
Also, at all NABCs, the entry fee for paid up ACBL members in good standing who have not reached their 26th birthday shall be no more than 50% of the regional-rated event entry fee.
(I would like to encourage all clubs in our District to consider a similar
policy for Sectional tournaments and Club games. A reduced entry fee policy already exists in the District for Regional
tournaments.)
* VERY GOOD NEWS FOR CLUBS
Beginning January 1, 2005, February will remain as Junior month and all games held to benefit the Junior Fund will receive 100% sectionally rated black points. April has been designated as Charity Month
and September has been designated as International Month with both receiving 100% sectionally rated black points. Watch for the full
particulars in the upcoming ACBL Bulletin.
* Membership dues and service fees were increased for all categories by $3, Youth dues will remain at $5 and Junior dues were increased by $1.25. (I voted against this and the vote was close—but carried nevertheless.)
The Orlando NABC is getting closer. Please be sure to contact me or your District representative to the board
and truly make this the
YEAR OF THE VOLUNTEER.
I am never too busy to reply to your e-mail messages, so please keep in touch.
