North American Pairs

Marketing Does Matter!

North American Pairs Games Are Popping!

Thanks to our club managers and new conditions that made NAP games more attractive—plus aggressive marketing efforts—the number of NAP games during June increased 68%! There were 10,505 tables in play at 1216 clubs, compared to 6242 tables at 724 clubs last year. With July and August to go, we’re optimistic of the return of this event as an important grassroots effort for players in your clubs, units and districts. Congratulations to all!

Marti, Jerry, Harry and More

Have you seen the fun and colorful Play Bridge section for newer players in the August issue of The Bridge Bulletin magazine? Marti Ronemus of Easybridge! fame pens her Bridge Club Diary. Jerry Helms continues to answer your questions. Harry Lampert returns with his delightful lessons. Popular teacher Pat Harrington presents a plan. Mike Lawrence’s bidding quiz is back. And your newcomers all will relate to one player’s first tournament experience!

We hope you find the new section of value to your newcomers and that you will send comments and suggestions to editor@acbl.org.

Bridge in Your Library
Bridge in Your Library

Does your local library carry a subscription to The Bridge Bulletin magazine? Many of you over the years have asked why we do not distribute magazines to libraries. The American Library Association alone has a membership of 64,000! That’s a lot of printing and postage. But you might be able to persuade your local library to order a subscription. Here’s how:

Most libraries use a magazine subscription service called Ebsco. The Bridge Bulletin magazine is included in the Ebsco catalog. If you can marshal your bridge-playing friends' forces in your community, the librarian may choose
to subscribe. Better yet, you might offer free lessons in a library meeting
room or donate some of your bridge books. If you are in a community
where a bridge column appears in the local newspaper, this is more
evidence of the game’s broad public interest.
