ACBL Meets AARP
Life at
50+ can be grand! And we’re taking our game on the road to Las
Vegas Oct. 14–16 for the fourth annual Life@50+: AARP's
National Event & Expo. It’s a great audience of younger
seniors who are traveling and looking for leisure activities. The ACBL
this year will host two stage presentations on playing bridge online
with Fred Gitelman
and Sheri Winestock of Bridge Base.

Charity Games
'Tis
the season of charity, and there’s still time for clubs to sign
up to participate in the ACBL-Wide Charity Pairs Nov. 22-28. Hand
records will be furnished for Monday evening, Nov. 22 and Shuffle
and Deal games throughout the week. Deadline to register is Oct. 22.
These games will fulfill club charity game requirements for 2004.

Socialized Bridge
A great idea turned into a great success when Atlanta hosted a free
sanctioned duplicate game for social players during the first day of
its
Labor Day Regional. How successful? How’s 47 tables? Several came
back for another session, a few joined the ACBL on the spot, and
several more signed up for lessons.

This month
all sanctioned club games may hold a Club Appreciation Pair
Game and a Club Appreciation Swiss Teams Event per-sanctioned session.
Masterpoints awarded: Black points at unit open pairs rating (85% of
sectional open pairs) for the Club Appreciation Pair Game. For team
events, the club awards 5% gold masterpoints to a maximum of 0.25 per
player. The
remaining masterpoints are to be sectional-rated black points.

Update Your CopyMax Card
CopyMax discount cards expired Sept. 1, 2004. Be sure to update and
use new cards with a Sept. 1, 2005 expiration date.

Give the Gift of Masterpoints
Promote gift memberships for the friends of your students and players.
A new member packet with a personalized message will be mailed to gift
recipients within two weeks, or closer to the holidays if requested.
Gift memberships can be ordered from the sales department toll free
at

And be sure to recruit new members before the rate increases to $26
on Jan. 1, 2005.

Spread Goodwill
It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important
to be nice! We know our club managers spread goodwill every day,
but there are three special days each year when goodwill rates
an even higher priority. And on Monday,
November 22 during the Fall NABC in Orlando, managers will be
able
to spread the goodwill in full force.
Clubs
are encouraged to do something extra special for their members
during this special day. Host a Goodwill party, hand out "happy
face" stickers, or in honor of goodwill in Orlando, how
about everyone
wearing fashionable pink feathers.
Also, if you have ideas for Goodwill Day promotions, please
send them
to the ACBL Marketing Department at marketing@acbl.org.
We would love to hear your Goodwill ideas.

Bridge Blast Weekend
Orlando will be a blast for newcomer players. In addition to the
free
Audrey Grant lesson and Bridge+ Game Saturday, Nov. 20, Marti
Ronemus
will offer a free lesson and Easybridge! Game Sunday, Nov. 21.
